The Martyrdom Of Imam Anwar al-Awlaki(rh)

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon

The Martyrdom of Imam Anwar al-Awlaki (rh) comes after three previous attempts by the US to kill him using the controversial tactic of extra-judicial killings.

Although saddled with a bottomless pit of deficits, the US continues to spend trillions of dollars waging illegal wars, acting as judge, jury, and executioner for individuals outside its jurisdiction, without due process of a fair trial brought to any court in the world.

The unilateral placing of groups and individuals on ‘terror lists’ leaving the burden of proof turned upside-down has become common place in the US, UK, and EU. Earlier this week the New York Times reported, under a Freedom Of Information Act request, that individuals who have been found innocent and freed by their own courts, still continue to be on terrorism watch lists.

Justice goes out of the window if you are a Muslim, for whom, since September 11th 2001 (when for some people history began) it has been a case of guilty until proven innocent (or should that read innocent until proven Muslim). Similar to the case of Babar Ahmad in the UK (whose petition you may want to sign here) who, with the absence of a trial, is facing extradition to the US (a different jurisdiction entirely to the UK!).

Muslims will remember Imam Anwar al-Awlaki(rh) as a mujahid and scholar, who spent his life striving in the path of Allah(swt). A renowned and distinguished orator, his popularity amongst English-Speaking Muslims was arguably unparalleled. This ability to reach and influence a western audience was most likely the reason he rivalled Osama bin Laden(rh) as the US’ most wanted man – to the extent that US openly called for his assassination. He was unapologetic in the way he narrated about the Prophet(saw) and the blessed generation(ra), bringing life and relevance to their lives for today’s Muslims. His famous lecture series on the Life of the Prophet(saw) and the first two Rightly Guided Caliphs – Abu Bakr(ra) and Umar Ibn al-Khattab(ra), inspired hundreds of thousands of English-Speaking Muslims, and nurtured our hearts with the love of the Prophet(saw) and his Companions(ra).

Those hearts are yearning to see the return of the Islamic Caliphate once again. Thanks to Imam Anwar al-Awlaki(rh) the very blueprint of the Rightly Guided Caliphate has been transcribed into the hearts of his listeners and no doubt his legacy will continue and become even stronger, as Muslims become more aware of his life. Such are the plans of Allah(swt), that the disbelievers will bring about their destruction with their own hands, insha’allah.

The Prophet(saw) said: “The Prophethood will last as long as Allah(swt) wills, then it will be replaced with the righteous Caliphate on the method of Prophethood as long as Allah(swt) wills, then it will be replaced with a biting monarchy as long as Allah(swt) wills, then there will be oppressive rule as long as Allah wills, then there will be a righteous Caliphate on the method of the Prophethood.” And then He(saw) remained silent. [Musnad Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal]

As the Arab Spring closes in on Assad of Syria and Saleh of Yemen, the sincere Scholars of Islam are declaring that the ‘oppressive rule’ is, insha'allah, drawing to its end.

May the Rightly Guided Caliphate spring from the land irrigated by the blood of Imam Anwar al-Awlaki(rh) and his companions and may Allah(swt) grant them their place in Jannat ul-Firdous. Ameen.
